MANIFESTO

A film is made by everyone whose work ends up on the screen. These terms exist so that each of them is recognised for it and shares in what the film becomes, on the same footing, written down before the first day.

• Everyone earns the same day rate, from the lead to the runner.
• No one earns a multiple of anyone else, and there are no side deals.
• Everyone shares in what the film earns, in proportion to the days they gave it.
• The cast and crew pool begins filling from the first euro the film earns.
• Once the people who funded the film are repaid with a fair premium, everything after that is shared evenly.
• Your share is your days worked over everyone's days, counted the same way for each person.
• The rate is modest, and we accept that together, myself included.
• No one on the team is paid ahead of anyone else.
• The share is honest about its limits: it is worth what the film earns, and no more.
• The terms are written down, and the accounts stay open to everyone who worked on the film.
• The people who make the film hold a real piece of what it becomes, in writing, before the first day.

HOW IT WORKS

Here is the mechanism, in plain numbers. From the first euro the film earns, 40% goes into a pool shared by the cast and crew, and 60% goes toward repaying the people who put money in. Once they have received 120% of what they invested, every euro after that is split evenly between them and the pool, for as long as the film earns. Each person's share of the pool is their days worked divided by the total days worked by everyone.
